Most educational assessments focus largely on the correct answers students give. We believe it is just as important to understand misconceptions behind incorrect answers, so that teachers are made aware of the conceptual hurdles their lessons may contend with. Hence we recruit experienced teachers to write Braincandy, which are misconception-driven questions focused on STEM content in grades 6-12.

Braincandy mitigate varying student language proficiencies with careful wording and heavy use of graphics and imagery. When coupled with interactive technology that affords students the safety of anonymous participation, each Braincandy is designed to unearth misconceptions that hinder mastery of a concept. Teachers can in turn parlay varying student misconceptions into social learning activities keen on reaching classroom consensus.
